COURSE INTRODUCTION

The skill card for the construction industry will be available for more than 110 trades.

Professionals (i.e. architects, engineers, etc.), skilled tradesman; labourers and plant / machinery operators’ involved in construction projects are required to be in possession of a skill card. This applies also to one time developers and property agents.

Acquiring the SKILL CARD in itself would also present a health and safety course for all the trades involved, in response to the fact that accidents on construction sites have sadly increased over time.

Cards would be made available by BICC for various levels including a red card for trainees and different cards according to the level of education of employees.

Foreign employees with a skill card from their country will have to verify the validity of their own cards compared to local standards, and foreigners seeking a job in the sector without their own card will also have the option to apply for the SKILL CARD.

COURSE INFORMATION

Skill Card training consists of topics related to health and safety in accordance with the syllabus requirements by BICC Malta in particular to

  • Understanding OHS and legal obligations and responsibilities
  • Demolition, Excavation, Lone worker, Young Persons, Confined areas, ATEX, Construction
  • Risk Assessments and other reports
  • Examples of bad practices and corrective measures
  • Group discussions
  • Safety signs and personal protective clothing / equipment (PPE)

The assessment consists of risks / hazards identifications, pin pointing the corrective measures and understanding safety information such as signage.

Certificates are issued for every participant either as “successful” or “attendance” classification.

Skill Card schedule in Malta

  • Once a week, 3 sessions in total from Monday to Saturday.
  • Each session has a duration of 3 hours.
  • Total 8 hours theory + 1 hour assessment.
  • Available in both English and Maltese language.

Timings as follows:

  • Monday – Friday from 17:00 – 20:30 including a 30 min break
  • Saturday from 09:00 – 12:30 including a 30 min break

Skill Card schedule in Gozo

  • Once a week, three sessions in total every Saturdays.
  • Each session has a duration of 3 hours.
  • Total 8 hours theory + 1 hour assessment.
  • Available in Maltese language.

Timings as follows:

  • Saturday from 09:00 till 12:30 including a 30 minute break
  • Saturday from 14:00 till 17:30 including a 30 minute break
